PLSAS is a National Green Ribbon School District
Glendale Elementary is the most recent school in Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools to be honored in Washington D.C. and presented with a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools award.
The award is the latest in a string of Green Ribbons our schools have earned over the years. Glendale is the fourth elementary school in our district to receive a Green Ribbon designation, following Redtail Ridge (2015), Five Hawks (2014) and Jeffers Pond (2013). Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools was also named a Green Ribbon Sustainability District in 2013.
The award acknowledges Glendale’s commitment to sustainable practices. The areas encompassed by the award include reduced environmental impact and costs, with energy, waste, water, and transportation measures; improved health and wellness, including nutrition, outdoors physical activity, and environmental health efforts; and effective environmental and sustainability education, which features hands-on, authentic, place-based learning and green career pathways.
In total, 47 schools, 15 districts, and 11 post-secondary institutions throughout the U.S. were honored in Washington D.C. on July 20, 2016.
These awards honor schools across the nation that are leading the way in reducing environmental impact, promoting health, and ensuring high-quality environmental education programming that prepares students with the skills and sustainability concepts they need in the growing global economy.
