Equity and Inclusion
Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools is dedicated to providing an equitable educational experience for our students. Equity and Inclusion work is based around providing students and staff with cultural competency skills and closing the achievement gap.
PLSAS Equity and Inclusion includes work in Achievement and Integration, English Language Learners (ELL), American Indian Education and Culturally and Linguistically Relevant (CLR) teaching and learning.
Our focus is to:
- Reduce achievement disparities.
- Provide differentiated instruction and targeted interventions to increase student achievement.
- Further develop professional development resources and training to improve achievement for all students.
- Implement strategies and activities to assist all students in post-secondary planning, awareness, readiness and participation.
Achievement and Integration
Our Achievement and Integration plan supports various activities throughout the district to reduce the achievement gap, increase equitable access to resources and promote activities that support the integration of our communities. To achieve these goals, Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools works with surrounding school districts including Jordan and Shakopee Public Schools as well as the Shakopee Mdewanketon Sioux Community.
Achievement and Integration Plan
English Language Learners (ELL)
The goal of the program is to provide instruction so students can become fully proficient in English and meet the same challenging state academic content and student achievement standards as all other children are expected to meet. Click here to visit the ELL page.
American Indian Education
Our American Indian Education Program focuses on supporting the success of students through direct academic support and family engagement. This program provides direct support to students through tutoring and test prep. Cultural education through professional development activities are also provided to staff and students.
Culturally and Linguistically Responsive (CLR) Teaching and Learning
CLR teaching and learning are embedded in teaching practices throughout PLSAS. Teachers lead work with education teams in their buildings to continually engage in best practices that will help all students reach their full potential.
