Our mission is to educate all learners to reach their full potential as contributing and productive members of our ever-changing global community.

Early Childhood Family Education

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a Community Education program of Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools, and is the first connection between families and the school district. ECFE is a program unique to Minnesota and is offered in over 300 school districts throughout the state. The mission of ECFE is to support and strengthen families - the first and most important teacher in a young child's life.

ECFE Classes Offer Three Components:

  • Parent and Child Interaction Time – An early childhood teacher provides developmentally appropriate activities for parents and children to enjoy together.
  • Guided Play for Children – A portion of the class is devoted to learning through play with licensed teachers and assistants while parents participate in a parent discussion in a separate room. (We separate for parenting in the multi-age classes and in the age specific classes 2 and over, but do parenting in the room for babies and 1 year olds).
  • Parent Discussion Time – Parents and caregivers participate in a discussion, led by a licensed parent educator. The joys and challenges of parenting are shared, and topics are designed to address the developmental issues of each age group.

We are so excited that, beginning September 2020, Edgewood School will be an ALL EARLY CHILDHOOD building! What does this mean for ECFE? More space to offer additional ECFE classes!

Watch for details to come about our Grand Reopening Open House!

Message from Early Learning Coordinator

Circle of Friends Preschool and ECFE Classes Cancelled/Postponed

In response to ongoing executive orders from Governor Walz regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools has made the decision to cancel/postpone Circle of Friends Preschool and ECFE classes during the distance learning period.

The Prior Lake-Savage Early Learning Office is closed at this time.

To our Prior Lake-Savage area family and friends, we will get through this! We eagerly await the time that we can fill the halls with our community’s youngest learners and their families once more.

Additional communications will be forthcoming as information becomes known and plans are solidified. As this situation continues to evolve, please visit https://www.priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us/about-us/coronavirus-virus for regularly updated school district information.

Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones during these trying times.

Take care,
Becca Richardson
