Super Saturday - Youth Mental Health Workshops

A Scott County event to increase public and professional understanding of mental illnesses, as well as to increase awareness of the area’s resources and support for youth who live with mental illness and their family members. The goal of the workshop sessions below are to help families, caregivers and educators learn about resources and skills they need to support youth struggling with behavioral health concerns as well as ways they can foster resiliency within themselves to help youth achieve physical and mental wellness. Recognizing Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness in Children & Adolescents

Learn about mental illnesses in students, the impact on a student’s success in school and how parents and teachers can work together as allies to support these students.

Understanding Early Episode Psychosis for Families

Learn about the signs and symptoms of psychosis, causes, treatment options and why early intervention is so important. Participants will learn how to advocate for and help a young person get back to work or school and achieve recovery.

 Eating Disorders: How to Identify Them & Support a Loved One

 In the United States alone, up to 30 million people struggle with an eating disorder at any given time, but only one out of ten people receive treatment. This presentation will help parents and other support people develop a better understanding of the symptoms of eating disorders, warning signs, and ways to support their loved ones. Participants will be able to identify signs and symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. Participants will also be able to identify specific ways to support individuals with eating disorders.

The Quest for Resiliency: Moving from Stressed Out to Chill

Feel stressed out? Stress levels are at an all-time high. This session will help you understand what causes you stress and the impact it has on your life whether you’re an adult or a teen. You’ll have time to practice a few techniques and leave inspired and equipped with tools to help you live a more balanced, resilient life.

Mental Health Crisis Planning For Families

Learn the symptoms that can lead to a crisis, steps to take, de-escalation techniques and the role of county crisis teams. Develop a crisis plan for your child and family.

Special Education: Helping Students Succeed

Learn the basics about the special education process (evaluation, Individualized Education Plans, students’ rights) and how complex it is.You will understand the laws and rules that impact children with a mental illness or in the Emotional or Behavioral Disability (EBD) category such as 504 Plans, the use of seclusion and restraints, and discipline policies. You will leave with a better understanding of how you can help your child succeed in school.

Learn about Minnesota’s children’s mental health system. Understand your rights as a family in the clinical treatment setting as well as the school.
