Our mission is to educate all learners to reach their full potential as contributing and productive members of our ever-changing global community.

What is Independent Study?

Independent Study is a program that allows students to recover credits they need for graduation.

How do I know which credits I need to make up?

Students should meet with their counselor to determine credit needs.

How do I register?

Counselors will provide students needing credit recovery with a Continual Learning Plan (CLP), a form required to begin Independent Study. The student brings the completed CLP (including parent signature) to either Independent Study Coordinator during one of the days and times listed below to review expectations and receive login information.

When and where do I go to attend?

Independent Study runs from Tuesday, October 1st, 2019 – Tuesday, May 18th, 2020. Students can attend either Bridges or PLHS.

Bridges—  Tuesday–Thursday, 3:30-5:30

PLHS— Mondays, 3:30-5:30, Room 204

How often do I need to attend?

As often as you can! Students do not need to attend IS for consecutive days, however, the more frequently students attend IS, the more quickly they will be able to earn credit. Seat time requirements vary depending on the student’s age. Students who are 16 and older must complete 10 hours of seat time per course. Students are 15-years old will be required to complete 25 hours per course.

 Is transportation provided?

PLHS students may take the activities bus that runs from the high school to Twin Oaks, just adjacent to Bridges. The bus leaves the high school at 3:10. Students should meet the bus by the tennis courts at the high school. Transportation home is not provided.

How do I actually earn the credit?

Students will earn credit upon successful completion of the assigned course in addition to meeting the attendance requirement.

Does the grade I earn for Independent Study replace my failing grade?

No, but the grade you earned through Independent Study will be added to your official transcript to verify that you retook the course and earned credit towards graduation.

What if I don’t complete my course or attendance requirement before the deadline?

All Independent Study courses will be end-dated May 18th. Students will not have the opportunity to transfer course progress or seat time hours to summer school or the following school year.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

Our Independent Study Coordinators can provide information on attendance and course progress.
