Welcome to Five Hawks Elementary!
My name is Tim Bell, and I get to be the principal at Five Hawks. I love being here every day – where else do you get to be energized by 500 eager learners who just so happen to love life?
I have been in education for over 40 years, including stints as a 5th and 6th grade teacher, staff development team member, a mentor teacher, and an assistant principal, all in Mankato. I received my principal’s license from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
I live in Prior Lake with my wife, Candy who helps to keep me grounded. We have two grown daughters who live in St. Paul and are blessed with the two best grandchildren in the world, Tate and Addison. They help to keep us young and tired!
The students and staff at Five Hawks practice environmental stewardship as a way of life. Beyond the normal activities of recycling paper, plastic, and aluminum, we are a part of the district efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle everything we can – even our leftover food, which we send to the local Organics Recycling Center. We have been able to reduce our waste footprint significantly by eliminating at least four large dumpster loads a week that recycle instead of filling up a landfill.
We are very proud of our outdoor learning center and try to make the best use we can of the space. You will often find classes being held outdoors… taking advantage of expanding our classrooms and using nature as a springboard for language arts, math, writing, and of course our science curriculum. We use the center all year round! Our students get to snow shoe, cross country ski, use our GPS devices and explore the environment without having to leave school to do it!
We are proud to have a school where a welcoming community is built and environmental learning is fostered. Our mission is to provide opportunities that will enhance learning in a safe and caring environment by helping each student reach his/her potential while striving to become respectful citizens in a diverse society.
The Five Hawks family is a remarkably warm and caring group. We are all part of making our mission come true and we welcome all who wish to be a part of our Five Hawks Community. Our PTC does a wonderful job of outreach and supports our students to make the learning experience even more memorable. We welcome parent volunteers and are eager to get to know all of our families.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone, email, or make an appointment to meet in person! There are no strangers in the world, just people we have not yet met… and we would love to meet you!
Thanks for making Prior Lake – Savage Area schools your choice!
