On June 10, 2019, the School Board approved elementary attendance boundary option C4. The new K-5 boundaries will go into effect for the 2020/21 school year in preparation for the opening of Hamilton Ridge Elementary.
Grainwood Elementary began as a K-12 school in 1951, which started the excellent teaching and learning tradition in Prior Lake. Now a K-5 elementary school, Grainwood's mission is to ensure high levels of academic and social learning for all students.
Grainwood is proud to be part of a 2013 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Sustainability District that supports Environmental Education, as well as a Minnesota Department of Education Celebration School. An E-STEM school, students at Grainwood receive instruction and learning focused on inquiry and real-world problem solving in the 21st Century, applying hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematical practices with projects and field experiences related to the environment.
Grainwood embraces the E-STEM philosophy through many projects from the student Jr. Naturalist program to studying circuitry through the creation of "jiggle bots."
